A constitution that puts our peculiarities into consideration is very important.

A rogue constitution can only produce rogues to operate it. A constitution that is underpinned by sharing mentality would produce sharers and would be better operated by them.

The current Nigeria constitution is a sharing constitution. Those that would like to build may not fit-in well operating it. How the writer could not decipher this simple nexus is quite strange.

The idea of parliamentary or presidential is an aberration. Let the people discuss and agree on what will work for them. It could be a modification of the popular presidential or parliamentary system but let the people agree on it themselves.

A constitution underpinned by production is what Nigeria needs

You normally cite cost of governance as reason why nigeria cannot create new states. You equally cite it as reason states cannot fund police force. As a matter of fact, in 2007, according to Olusegun Adeniyi, Yar' Adua set up a fact finding commission which established the real problem hindering nigeria's development is that nigeria is like a boat in a racing competition that has 7 captains & 4 passengers. nigeria spends over 70% of it's revenue on recurrent expenditure (i.e., paying the salaries of public officials, in other words to maintain less than 5% of the population). Currently, nigeria's budget, run in most part with debts, is spent only on two items: recurrent expenditure & debt servicing. So, it is a deliberate lie by Olusegun Adeniyi & the Ronu clan at Thisday to claim system of government or constitution is not a problem. And this is the same Olusegun Adeniyi who has severally written that the current system is not sustainable!

To make matters worse, most powers are concentrated at the federal government, with the states & LGAs being only powerless appendages. However, Femi Falana & Simon Kolawole would applaud it if state governors go out of their way to construct airports. But they will not want it formalized in the constitution. They will not want power to construct airports formally devolved to the states in the constitution.

To add to the problem, the distribution in number of states & LGAs (which are merely avenues for sharing of resources) are so lopsided to the point of inhumanity.

Unfortunately, why some northerners acknowledge it & offer solutions on how to address the lopsidedness & the defection generally ( https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2020/07/10/towards-restructuring-of-nigeria/ , https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2023/12/17/jega-nigerias-presidential-system-very-defective-restructuring-critical-before-2027/ , https://content.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2020/10/11/heeding-attahiru-jegas-constitutional-counsel/ ), Yorubas are still insisting on the status quo! & In spite of your desperation, nigeria will neither develop nor will there be peace or progress. In 2020 when a northern Think Tank advocated a return to 12 state structure, it was Toyin Falola (Premium Times) & Olu Fasan (Vanguard) who argued against it while the rest of the Ronu clan began ratcheting up the drum of restructuring alongside the status quo – in a bid to drown the unexpected northern call!

To begin with, each time the conferences organized in the past failed, it had the imprimatur and active collaboration of the Ronu clan. In 2005 they rejected just 25% derivation for oil producing communities during Obasanjo's National Political Reform Conference. In 2014 they allied with the north to ensure the failure of the National Conference. In 1966 they played a major role in truncating Aburi agreement. So, the practice is to frustrate restructuring at every turn only to turn around at every turn to use the failure as a reason to fight a new quest for restructuring!
